Parris wins at top spot against No. 7 Stanford

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- While injury problems with Nessrine Ariffin have been unfortunate for the Bates women's squash team, senior captain Cheri-Ann Parris has responded extremely well in her return to the No. 1 position for the Bobcats, the spot in the lineup that she anchored in her first two years at Bates.

Bates fell by an 8-1 score to the seventh-ranked team in the College Squash Association, Stanford University, on the first day of the Yale Round Robin. Parris (St. Philip, Barbados) was responsible for Bates' lone point, winning her five-set battle with Kerrie Sample 11-7, 12-10, 2-11, 7-11, 11-7.

First-year standout Lauren Williams (Buluwayo, Zimbabwe) played to a closely-contested 3-1 (11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4) loss at the No. 4 position against Alexandra Huchro.
