LEWISTON, Maine -- An undermanned No. 15 nationally ranked Bates women's squash team fell 5-4 to No. 28 Connecticut College Saturday afternoon at the Bates Squash Center.

With four key players expected to return in January, the Bobcats (1-1) still showed off their strength at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Luca Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) won 3-0 (11-2, 11-0, 11-4) at the No. 1 position over the Camels' Mawa Ballo. Junior captain Vicky Arjoon (Georgetown, Guyana) also won 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-5) at the No. 2 position over Margaret Davey.

The Bobcats' impressive pair of first-years at the No. 3 and 4 positions won for the second straight matches as well. Maeve O'Brien (Essex, Conn.) beat Molly Carabatsos 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-9) and Katie Manternach (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also won 3-0, with an 11-3, 11-5, 11-4 win over Denise Bonilla.

After the top four, Bates struggled a bit on Saturday, with senior Hannah Conner (Groton, Mass.) taking her match to five games before falling 3-2 (10-12, 11-6, 11-5, 8-11, 11-2) to the Camels' Davis Lemay.

The Bobcats are back in action December 2 when they visit Vassar for a pair of matches, one against Vassar and the other against Haverford.
