Women's tennis team guts out 5-4 win over Babson

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's tennis team won four out of six singles matches to edge visiting Babson College by a 5-4 score Thursday at the Wallach Tennis Center.

Bates raised its dual-meet record this fall to 2-1 with the win.

Winning in two sets in singles for Bates were sophomore Caryn Benisch (Huntington, N.Y.) at No. 2 over Lorena Becerra (6-0, 6-2) and first-year Alex Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.) over Kali Hogan (6-0, 7-5). Benisch and Piacquad also teamed up for the Bobcats' lone win in doubles, a narrow 9-8 (5) decision over Babson's Andrea Hagy and Heather Walsh.

Bates next competes at the New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament Oct. 20-22 at Amherst College.
