Women's tennis team starts spring competition with loss at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates College women's tennis team opened its spring season on Saturday with an 8-1 loss at MIT. The Engineers improved to 9-3 this year with the victory, while the Bobcats fell to 2-2.

Bates first-year Alexandra Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.) earned the lone point for Bates, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over MIT's Serena Lin at the No. 2 singles position.

Bates will return to action on Saturday, March 10, when the Bobcats host Smith College at 3 p.m.
