No. 28 women's tennis team routs Camels, 9-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The No. 28 nationally ranked Bates College women’s tennis team posted a 9-0 victory against Connecticut College for the second straight year on Saturday.

Bates improved to 6-8 with a 2-3 mark in the NESCAC while the Camels fall to 3-8 with a 0-3 mark in league action.

Sophomore Elena Mandzhukova (Lisbon, Portugal) posted a 7-5, 7-5 victory to lead the Bobcats at #1 singles.

Connecticut College seniors Brittney Cangemi and Jen Herbert kept it close for the Camels in a 9-8 loss to Mandzhukova and senior Ashley Brunk (Phoenix, Ariz.) at #1 doubles.

In addition to Mandzhukova, senior Jacqui Holmes (Harvard, Mass.), senior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) and junior Kristen Doerer (Madison, Conn.) all won in straight sets in singles play, at 2, 4 and 6, respectively.

Bates' four-day, three-match NESCAC road odyssey continues at Hamilton on Sunday at 11am.
