CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Bates women's tennis team scored its first NESCAC victory of the young season in decisive fashion, winning 8-1 at Hamilton on Sunday.

Bates (3-4, 1-1 NESCAC) swept doubles play, including an 8-0 victory at No. 1 by junior Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) and sophomore Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) over Winnie Tang and Jane Haffer. Senior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) and first-year Isabelle Rovinski (New York, N.Y.) topped Claire Keyte and Samantha Weeks 8-6 at No. 2 doubles while first-year Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) and senior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won 8-5 at third doubles over Iona Forrester and Claudia Morse.

Senior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) won by forfeit at No. 6 singles, but the Bobcats didn't need the point, winning four out of the remaining five singles matches. Silverman, Stone, Rovinski and Rosenthal won with ease at first, third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

Hamilton dropped to 3-2 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

Bates next plays three matches in three days at the Blue & Grey Classic at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., beginning March 17 at noon against Whitman College.
