Erbafina, Stone named ITA All-Academic

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Bates women's tennis program was represented by 2017 graduate Elizabeth Erbafina and rising junior Bella Stone on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's list of 2017 All-Academic Scholar Athletes.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) played No. 2 singles, defeating opponents from Colby, Connecticut College and Trinity, and paired with rising sophomore Isabelle Rovinski (New York, N.Y.) at No. 2 doubles in the 2016-17 season for the Bobcats, where she notched wins over Brandeis, Hamilton, Trinity, Colby and Connecticut College. A repeat winner of the ITA academic honor, Erbafina was also one of 38 Bates graduates to receive the Bates Senior Scholar Award on May 28 from the Bates Department of Athletics, for four-year athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above.

Stone (Concord, Mass.) won seven matches at the No. 3 singles position in 2016-17, including victories over opponents from Whitman, Mary Washington, Trinity, Colby, Connecticut College and Hamilton. She teamed with rising senior Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Mass.) as Bates' No. 1 doubles team, where they picked up wins against Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Colby, Connecticut College and Hamilton.
