Women's track and field second in home tri-meet







LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's track and field team got the indoor season off to a solid start on Saturday as it hosted a tri-meet with MIT and Colby in the first meet at the newly resurfaced facilities at Merrill Indoor Gymnasium. Bates finished second in the meet, with MIT in first place (151), followed by Bates (123) and Colby (89).

Event winners for the Bobcats included sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.) in the 400 meters (1:01.41); the 4x400 meter relay team (4:13.50) of senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), senior Tara Higgins (Jeffersonville, Vt.), senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) and first-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.); Marino in the long jump (16-00.50) and triple jump (34-04.25); and junior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) in both the shot put (40-01.25) and weight throw (53-07.00).

Head coach Jay Hartshorn also cited Tobin's third-place performance in the 55-meter hurdles (9.09 seconds).

Bates next competes in the Brandeis Invitational next Saturday at 12 p.m.
