INDIANAPOLIS -- The Bates women's track and field team will have sophomore Bud Arens in the 800 and senior Dana Lindauer in the 400 in this week's NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, as the field for the meet was announced Sunday by the NCAA. The meet takes place this Thursday through Saturday, May 26-28 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Arens (Weymouth, Mass.) will make her first appearance at an NCAA Championship as the 22nd seed out of 22 runners in the 800 meters. Also Bates' No. 2 all-time performer at 1,500 meters, Arens ran the second-fastest 800 in team history, at 2:13.65, two weekends ago at the Open New England Championships in New Haven, Conn.
Lindauer (Needham, Mass.) is 2-for-2 in NCAA appearances in a brilliant senior year, after also competing in the 400 at indoor nationals in March. She'll be the 15th seed out of 23 competitors in the 400 meters, based on the team record time of 56.74 seconds she ran at the ECAC Division III Championships on Friday. Lindauer was honored last week as the female winner of the 2011 Milton L. Lindholm Scholar-Athlete Award, going to the Bates varsity athlete owning the highest cumulative grade point average after four years.
