Godek, Flanagan win two events apiece at Colby Invitational







WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates women's track and field team claimed first place in seven events, finishing second at the Colby Invitational in team scoring. Bates scored 223.50 points, trailing host Colby (279.50) and edging Southern Maine (211).

Bates senior Sara Ellen Godek (Gilford, N.H.) dominated the hammer throw event with a top effort of 157-10, more than 25 feet beyond the nearest competitor. Godek also took first place in the shot put (39-7.25)

Sophomore Ansley Flanagan (Roxbury, Conn.) also won two events for the Bobcats, taking first out of 20 competitors in the 200-meter dash, at 27.50 seconds, after also claiming first place in the 100, with a hand time of 12.6 seconds. Flanagan was also third in the high jump, at 4-11.75.

Junior Taylor Piers (Falmouth, Maine) claimed first place in the triple jump at 35-1.00, with sophomore Erin Augulewicz (Eliot, Maine) tied for second at 23-9.50. Piers was a close second in the long jump, at 16-1.50.

Sophomore Nora Hanagan (Singapore) took first place in the 400 hurdles, at 1:08.55.

Senior Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.) won the 800-meter run in 2:21.30.

Bates competes at the Aloha Relays next Saturday at Bowdoin at 11 a.m. The heptathlon portion of the meet starts Friday afternoon.
