Women's track wins two relays at Tufts Invitational









MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates College women's track and field team competed in its second meet in as many days on Saturday at the Tufts Invitational, and the Bobcats won two relay races to highlight the eight-team, non-scoring meet.

Bates' "A" and "B" 4x400 relay teams both outran Tufts' two entries for first and second place, in 4:29.85 and 4:30.71. The first-place A team was first-year Maddie Smit (Lawrenceville, N.J.), senior Kat Collet (Leawood, Kan.), first-year Holli Kenison (Orono, Maine) and junior Katie Ryan (Burlington, Vt.), while the B team comprised senior Jenny Krupski (Foxborough, Mass.), first-year Rachel Baumann (Fairfield, Conn.), first-year Chelsea Thompson (Farmington, Maine) and sophomore Elise Levesque (West Simsbury, Conn.). Bates also beat Smith by nearly seven seconds in a two-team running of the 4x800 relay, in a time of 10:48.92. The all-rookie lineup comprised Kara Stefaniak (Needham, Mass.), Emily Foden (Mount Airy, Md.), Devin Tatro (Haverhill, Mass.) and Tara Notarianni (Johnston, R.I.).

Levesque also came in second in the 600-meter run, in a time of 1:46.41.

Stefaniak also finished third in the 800, with a time of 2:33.06.
