Arens selected to run the 1,500 at NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS -- Bates College junior Bud Arens will compete in her third consecutive NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship, and her second straight outdoor nationals, it was learned Sunday as the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The meet takes place this Thursday through Saturday, May 24-26 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif.

Arens (Weymouth, Mass.) will run as the 19th seed among 22 runners in the 1,500 meters, based on her season-best time of 4:37.23, recorded at the New England Division III Outdoor Championships at MIT on May 5. Arens was also in the running for a spot competing in the 800 meters, which she ran in at the 2011 outdoor nationals. In March she helped Bates finish seventh in the distance medley relay at Division III indoor nationals, while also qualifying for the meet in the mile and the 800.

A three-season student-athlete at Bates, Arens was also an All-NESCAC selection in women's soccer last season as a defender.
