LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates junior Kallie Nixon will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at this week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as the championship meet's accepted entries were released on Sunday.
Nixon (Medfield, Mass.) also qualified for the 1,500-meter run but is opting for the steeplechase between the two events. She stands as the 13th seed among 22 entries in the race, based on her career-best time of 10:56.13 run at Open New Englands two weeks ago at Stonehill College. Nixon ranks as the second-fastest steeplechaser on Bates' all-time performance list, trailing only three-time All-American Kathryn Moore '07.
This will be Nixon's first individual race at a national championship meet. She also was a member of Bates' distance medley relay team at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships, helping the team finish eighth to win All-America honors.
The women's steeplechase trial race will be held on Thursday at 7:50pm Central time. The top 14 runners will qualify for the finals, to be held Saturday at 1:45.
