Solid first day of Open New Englands for women's track

EASTON, Mass. -- The Bates women's track and field team posted solid times but didn't score any points in four events on Friday at the all-divisions Open New Englands at Stonehill College. The majority of the meet takes place Saturday.

Junior Gabby Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) notched the team's highest finish of the day, placing 21st in the 10,000-meter run, in 41:48.88, fourth among Division III athletes.

Sophomore Sarah Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.) placed 24th in the 400 meters, in 58.56 seconds, seventh among Division III runners.

Senior captain Ansley Flanagan (Roxbury, Conn.) placed 24th in the 200-meter dash, in 26.53 seconds, sixth among Division III runners.

First-year Elena Schroeder (Clinton, Conn.) came in 31st in the 400-meter hurdles, 11th in Division III, in 1:09.24.
