Zeltner, Hartt, Carey-Hatch shine on Day 1 of ECACs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- First-year Hannah Zeltner placed third in the 10,000-meter run Friday night, in the final event of the first day of the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday at Springfield College.

In other first-day highlights for the Bobcats, junior Angeleque Hartt came within one hundredth of a second of tying Bates' team record in the 100-meter dash, and junior Mira Carey-Hatch scored a team point in the 5,000 meter-run.

Zeltner (Bedford, N.H.) finished the 10K in 37:22.53, 10 seconds behind the first two finishers but 24 seconds ahead of fourth place. Senior Lindsay Cullen (Newburyport, Mass.) finished 12th in 38:34.01.

Hartt (Bronx, N.Y.) moved up from third to second place on Bates' all-time performance list in the 100, just .01 behind Anne Millham's record 12.50 from 1988. Hartt missed the final but tied for 23rd place out of 42 runners in the event.

Carey-Hatch (Laconia, N.H.) finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run, in 18:05.58, putting her in eighth place on Bates' all-time performance list in the event. Sophomore Elena Jay (West Hartford, Conn.) finished 15th in 18:30.31, and senior Alicia Fannon (Haverhill, Mass.) took 18th place in 18:38.22.

Also on Friday, Bates took 15th place on the 4x400 relay, with junior Abby Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), first-year Melanie Ehrenberg (Rumson, N.J.), sophomore Amelia Oliver (Potomac, Md.) and senior Ansley Flanagan (Roxbury, Conn.) finished the race in 4:03.91.
