Volleyball team faces rivals Bowdoin and Colby




BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches Saturday at Bowdoin College, losing to the host Polar Bears 3-0 in the morning and dropping a 3-0 decision to Colby in the afternoon. Bates drops to 2-4 on the season.

Bowdoin topped Bates by scores of 20-25, 14-25 and 17-25. Leaders for the Bobcats in the match included junior Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) with 6 kills, first-year Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) with 4 kills and 5 digs, sophomore Brit Johnston (Winter Park, Colo.) with 12 digs and first-year Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) with 16 assists and 6 digs.

Haessler paced the Bobcats in the Colby match with 28 assists and 10 digs as the Mules prevailed by scores of 23-25, 18-25 and 19-25. Gee contributed 8 kills and 5 digs. Other leaders for Bates included junior Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) with 8 kills and 2 blocks, junior Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) with 7 kills and 7 digs and first-year Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) with 7 kills and 2 aces.

The Bobcats next play a non-conference match at UMaine-Farmington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
