WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Bates College volleyball team shrugged off a 3-0 loss to the University of New England with a 3-2 victory over host Eastern Connecticut State University Friday night in the Crabtree Invitational.
Senior Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) had 8 kills, including a .533 attack percentage, and junior Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Conn.) had a team-high of 9 kills and 3 blocks in the 13-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-14, 15-10 victory over Eastern Connecticut. First-year Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) had 38 assists, while first-year Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) had a team-high 4 blocks, junior Kira Kramlich (San Francisco, Calif.) had 17 digs, first-year Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) added 16 digs, and junior Tess Dokus had 8 kills.
Bates (10-11) lost to the Nor’easters in a well-contested match by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-21. Statistical leaders for Bates in the match included Haessler with 9 digs and 30 assists; Dokus with 10 kills and a .333 attack percentage; Kramlich with 12 digs; junior Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) with 8 kills and Masters with 7 kills.
The tournament concludes Saturday with Bates facing Bridgewater State College at 10 a.m., followed by Johnson & Wales at 12:30 p.m.
