Trinity knocks volleyball from unbeaten ranks




LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team received its first loss of the season on Friday, 3-0, at the hands of Trinity College in a NESCAC match at Alumni Gymnasium. It was the conference opener for both teams.

The Bantams (4-2, 1-0 NESCAC) took three straight sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-21) from the host Bobcats (4-1, 0-1 NESCAC).

Bates sophomore Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) led the Bobcats with 23 assists. Sophomore Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) chipped in with seven kills and four aces, while senior Tess Dokus (Fairpoint, N.Y.) contributed eight kills and three digs.

Leading the way for Trinity was first-year Danielle Isaman (West Hartford, Conn.) with 15 kills. Junior Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) served up four aces and dished out 13 assists. Sophomore Alex Pell (San Diego, Calif.) tallied 17 digs. Sophomore Kelly O'Brien (Pelham, N.Y.) provided three solo blocks and classmate Jen Lowe (San Francisco, Calif.) provided 19 assists.  

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow at Bates College. The Bobcats will host Amherst College at 11 a.m., while Trinity will play Colby College at 1:30 p.m.
