Volleyball team wins 3-1 at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team took a step closer to clinching the CBB title this season, defeating Colby 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-10) in a non-conference match on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats (8-2) are off to their best record through 10 matches since 2000 and are now 3-0 against CBB opponents (2-0 against the Mules and 1-0 against Bowdoin) this season. Colby will play at Bates on Oct. 21 in the teams' NESCAC conference matchup. Bates will play at Bowdoin on Oct. 10.

Leaders for Bates on Wednesday night included senior Tess Dokus (Fairport, N.Y.), who had 14 kills, senior Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.), who had 17 digs and seven kills; first-year Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.), who had eight kills and two blocks; sophomore Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.), who had six kills and four service aces; sophomore Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.), who had 42 assists and six digs; and first-year Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.), who had 12 digs.

Bates travels to Wesleyan University this weekend to play Connecticut College on Friday at 8 p.m. and Wesleyan on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in a pair of conference matches.
