Gee earns all-tournament honors at MIT Quad






CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bates junior Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) earned all-tournament team honors on Saturday at the conclusion of the MIT Quad, as the Bates volleyball team was defeated 3-0 by a pair of tough opponents in Lebanon Valley College and No. 25 nationally ranked UMass-Boston.

Bates sophomore Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) led the Bobcats against Lebanon Valley (18-7) with six kills, three blocks and two service aces. Bates fell by set scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-13 in the match. First-year Jennifer Youngpeter (Mobile, Ala.) had 15 assists and 10 digs, while senior Rachel Colby (Willimantic, Conn.) and sophomore Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) both had 12 digs, four kills and a block apiece. Gee had three kills, three assists and nine digs in the match.

Pyne again spurred the Bobcats in a 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 loss to the No. 25 Beacons (20-2), with 12 kills and two blocks. Russell added eight kills and 15 digs, and Gee came up with six kills and nine digs. Youngpeter added 27 assists, three kills and a block, and Colby pitched in with six kills and nine digs.

Currently in eighth place in the conference, Bates (6-14, 1-5 NESCAC) plays a key NESCAC match at Colby (6-12, 0-6) on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
