Pyne, Russell pace volleyball in loss at Williams







WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Bates volleyball team finished a 1-1 weekend of conference play with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-17) loss at Williams Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats, who defeated Hamilton 3-1 on Friday night at Williams, dropped to 6-11 overall and 1-5 in NESCAC play. Williams is 15-6 and 5-1.

Sophomore Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) had 10 kills and six digs, while sophomore Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) added seven kills and 11 digs. First-year Jennifer Youngpeter (Mobile, Ala.) set up the offense with 22 assists, along with three kills. First-year Catherine Dioli (Ipswich, Mass.) and senior Rachel Colby (Willimantic, Conn.) totaled 16 and 10 digs, respectively, while sophomore Caroline Gattuso (North Reading, Mass.) served up two aces to go with six digs.

Bates next competes at the MIT Quad, facing the host Engineers on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Saturday matches against Lebanon Valley College and UMass-Boston.
