Volleyball comeback bid falls short at Bowdoin, 3-1





BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Behind a 14-kill, 17-dig, four-ace effort from Hillary Cederna, Bowdoin defeated the Bates volleyball team 3-1 Tuesday night at Morrell Gymnasium. Bowdoin won by set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-9. The Polar Bears improved to 12-5 this season while the Bobcats dropped to 5-10 on the year.

Bates was led by seven kills and 11 digs from junior Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.). Sophomore Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) also had seven kills, while sophomore Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) added five kills and 14 digs. Junior Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) carded 21 assists and two aces for the Bobcats. Senior Rachel Colby (Willimantic, Conn.) had three aces to go with a team-high 16 digs.

In addition to Cederna, Bowdoin received 12 kills from Kristin Hanczor and 10 from Ellie Brennan. Stephanie Bond dished out 48 assists while Taylor Vail racked up 22 digs in the victory.

The Bobcats head to Williams this weekend, where they'll play NESCAC foes Hamilton on Friday (8 p.m.) and Williams on Saturday (1:30 p.m.).
