Volleyball wraps up home schedule against Middlebury





LEWISTON, Maine -- Middlebury won its fourth straight match with a 3-0 defeat of the Bates College volleyball team on Saturday afternoon, in the Bobcats' home finale at Alumni Gymnasium. The Panthers earned the NESCAC win by set scores of 25-13, 25-14, 25-14. Middlebury jumped to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Bates dropped to 5-9 overall, 0-4 in the NESCAC.

Bates junior captain Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.) had a team-high seven kills along with eight digs. Junior Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) had 15 assists to go with two blocks, nine digs and two kills. Sophomore Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) had three kills and three blocks, while sophomore Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) totaled a team-high 12 digs. It was the final home match for the team's lone senior, captain Rachel Colby (Willimantic, Conn.), who had three kills, two service aces and six digs in the match.

Bates plays a non-conference match at Bowdoin on Tuesday at 7 p.m., gearing up for next weekend's trip to Williams, where they'll play NESCAC foes Hamilton on Friday (8 p.m.) and Williams on Saturday (1:30 p.m.). Middlebury also plays Bowdoin next, on Friday at 6 p.m. at home.
