Volleyball plays tough against Polar Bears





LEWISTON, Maine -- Tory Edelman led four Polar Bears with seven or more kills, as Bowdoin defeated Bates 3-0 in a NESCAC volleyball match on Sunday at Alumni Gymnasium. The Polar Bears (7-1, 2-0 NESCAC) won by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.

Bates (0-8, 0-2 NESCAC) received seven kills apiece by first-year Emma Getsinger (Darien, Conn.) and senior captain Chrissy Gee (San Francisco, Calif.), along with 21 assists by first-year Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) and three service aces by junior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.). Russell also had a match-high 17 digs.

Sophia Cornew handed out 31 assists and added four kills against zero attack errors. Kristin Hanczor had eight kills and a match-high five blocks, while Emese Gaal and Melissa Haskell totaled seven kills apiece.

Bates faces Rivier College in its third straight home match on Friday at 7 p.m. The match can be followed live via Video Webcast on First Team Broadcasting.
