NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Connecticut College showed again why it is one of the top programs in the NESCAC, as the host Camels dealt Bates a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) defeat on Friday night.
Bates senior middle blocker Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) was very effective on attack, posting a team-high eight kills with only one error (.389). Senior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) added seven kills and two aces, and first-year Mary Deneen (Windsor, Conn.) contributed six kills against one error (.278). Pyne, Russell and first-year Kelsey Berry (Hollis, N.H.) all totaled two aces.
Sophomore setter Miranda Shapiro (New York, N.Y.) dished out 23 assists for Bates, and first-year Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.) led the Bobcats with 12 digs.
Caroline Martin racked up a match-high 15 kills for the Camels (15-2, 6-2 NESCAC), with Rachel Scrhoff adding 11 kills against one error and Anelise Hohl contributing nine more kills. Katie Ketcham ran the attack with 44 assists.
The Bobcats (8-11, 1-6 NESCAC) travel to Middletown, Conn., to play Wesleyan (4-12, 0-8 NESCAC) Saturday at 2pm.
