LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team started out hot with a nice comeback win in the first set, but visiting Hamilton College came back for a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-20) win in the NESCAC opener for both teams Friday night.
Bates (4-2, 0-1 NESCAC) saw its four-match win streak end. The Bobcats will travel to Nashua, N.H., on Saturday to face Wentworth Institute at 1pm and host Rivier College at 3pm.
First-year Mary Deneen (Windsor, Conn.) and senior Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) led Bates with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Sophomore Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) passed out 35 assists to go with 14 digs, while senior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) amassed a match-high 25 digs.
Hamilton (3-3, 1-0 NESCAC) received a match-high 12 kills from senior outside hitter Amanda Cohen (Port Washington, N.Y.). Sophomore Anna Brown (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made a key contribution with eight service aces and a team-high 20 digs. Sohpomore Erin Casey (Montclair, N.J.), first-year Courtney Somverville (Chicago, Ill.), firs-tyear Blaire Frett (Evanston, Ill.) and senior Ally Martella (Washington, D.C.) were credited with three blocks apiece. Junior Brenna Corrigan (Ramsey, N.J.) contributed nine kills in the win. Sophomore Emma Lonadier (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior Sarah Pfund (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) paced the offense with 17 and 16 assists, respectively.
