LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates volleyball team breezed past Husson University in its home opener on Tuesday night at Alumni Gym, beating the visiting Eagles 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-6) for their fourth straight victory.
Husson dropped to 3-5, having also lost to Bates by a 3-0 score on Saturday at the St. Joseph's Invitational.
Bates (4-1) scored 18 service aces to key the win, including five by senior Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.), who also led the Bobcats in kills with nine. First-year Nicole Cueli (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) served up four aces, first-year Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.) and sophomore Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) collected three apiece and senior Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) added two more.
Brynn Wendel added six kills against just one attack error, and Kelsey Berry contributed seven kills. Walther passed out 24 assists, and Russell recorded a match-high 15 digs.
Hannah Olstad led Husson with five kills, while Kelsey Burill made three kills with nine digs. Aleta Johnson passed out 11 assists.
Bates will host Hamilton on Friday at 8pm in its first NESCAC match of the season (Video).
