HADLEY, Mass. -- It's been too long a wait in the opinion of Bates fans, but Wednesday the New England Small College Athletic Conference finally named a Bobcat to the All-NESCAC volleyball for the first time since 2004, with senior Chandler McGrath receiving First Team honors.

McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) is the only newcomer to the six-member All-NESCAC First Team. The captain and outside hitter ranks third in the NESCAC in kills per set at a career-best 3.55. McGrath also ranked 15th in the league in attack percentage (.223) and averaged 0.81 digs and 0.32 blocks per set in 2016. McGrath has led Bates in kills in all four of her seasons and finished with 1,046 kills in her career.

McGrath was a big part of a strong 2016 campaign for the Bobcats, who won their most NESCAC matches since 2003 with an even 5-5 record. Bates went 7-1 at home and finished the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Middlebury, their first win against the Panthers since 2003. McGrath finished her career on Saturday with a career-high 24 kills in a 3-1 loss to Middlebury in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament.

McGrath also earned her second career NESCAC Player of the Week honor on Oct. 10.

Olivia Zurek '05 was the last Bates player to be named All-NESCAC in volleyball, after the 2004 season.
