PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Bates volleyball team defeated Simmons 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) and host Plymouth State 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14) Saturday afternoon in Foley Gymnasium.
The victories give the Bobcats (7-6) four wins in their last five matches. They host Hamilton Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium.
Bates 3, Simmons 0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-17)
First-year Angel Echipue tallied a match-high 11 kills and senior captain Jacqueline Forney dished out a match-high 26 assists in the Bobcats' 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) win over Simmons Saturday afternoon.
Echipue (Munich, Germany) starred with a remarkable .611 kill percentage in the match. She did not make a single attack error and chipped in three digs and a block. Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) added two service aces and six digs.
Sophomore Gabi Eustache (New York, N.Y.) tallied a match-high 15 digs. Juniors Lauren Brough (Killingworth, Conn.) and Reilly Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) chipped in nine and five kills respectively. Murphy also recorded a pair of blocks.
As a team, Bates tallied a kill percentage of .276, making only six attack errors along the way. Meanwhile they held Simmons (9-9) to a kill percentage of .011. Morgan Weeg led Simmons with 10 kills and added 14 digs. Julia Fusco recorded a match-high 20 digs and Faith Gray-Williams dished out 12 assists.
Bates 3, Plymouth State 1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14)
First-year Ruby Lightbourn recorded a team-high 12 kills and Eustache tallied a match-high 30 digs to lead the Bobcats to a 3-1 (25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14) win over Plymouth State Saturday afternoon.
Lightbourn (Los Angeles, Calif.) also contributed 14 digs, a pair of service aces and a block. Forney dished out 35 assists and assisted on a pair of blocks as well.
Sophomore Taylor Stafford-Smith (Calabasas, Calif.) turned in a strong performance with nine kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Echipue and junior Claire Naughton (Darien, Conn.) added seven kills each. Echipue also chipped in six blocks and Naughton recorded three digs.
Alexis Bowers tallied a match-high 14 kills for Plymouth State (12-6). Brenna Peruch recorded 28 digs and Megan Bailey dished out 35 assists.
The Bobcats recorded eight service aces to Plymouth State's two. Sophomore Jordan Camarillo (Tucson, Ariz.) led the way with three service aces.
Bates tallied a kill percentage of .194 in the win. Meanwhile Plymouth State notched a killing percentage of .104.
After splitting the first two sets, the Bobcats took command with a 25-16 win in the third and a 25-14 win in the clinching fourth set.
