HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior Jacqueline Forney was named NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, after leading the way in the Bobcats' outstanding 3-0 week.
Forney (Bloomington, Ind.), Bates' captain and starting setter, averaged 12.9 assists, 4.3 digs, 0.3 kills and 0.2 blocks per set as Bates won nine sets in a row on the week, with a 3-1 win over Bowdoin followed by 3-0 victories over Connecticut College and Wesleyan. Bates defeated Connecticut College for the first time since 2004, Bowdoin for the first time since 2009, and dealt Wesleyan its first NESCAC loss of the season.
The victories pulled Bates into a tie with Amherst for seventh place in the NESCAC standings, with two conference matches remaining on the schedule. The top eight teams in the final league standings will compete in the postseason NESCAC Championship tournament.
Forney ranks second in the NESCAC in assists per set (9.87). In NESCAC contests she leads the conference with 10.23 assists per set, and she ranks 15th in digs per set with 3.37.
Forney and the Bobcats travel this weekend to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational for non-conference matches against Carthage and Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday.
