Women's cross country tops all college teams at Codfish Bowl







BOSTON -- The Bates College women's cross country team placed first among all college teams, and second overall, at the Codfish Bowl on a hot Saturday at Franklin Park.

Bates trailed only the adult club Greater Boston Track Club, which scored 28 points. Bates had 149, followed by Bentley (164) and Coast Guard (174). Nine of the 21 college teams at the meet were Division II schools.

Sophomore Alicia Fannon (Haverhill, Mass.) led the Bobcats with a 17th-place finish overall, at 20:19. First-year Mira Carey-Hatch (Laconia, N.H.) placed 21st in 20:37. Bates had a tight pack of its next five runners finish between 46th and 58th place -- senior Chloe Bourne (Litchfield, Conn.) in 21:18, first-year Meg Ogilvie (Hopedale, Mass.) in 21:22, senior Jen Mitton (Reisterstown, Md.) in 21:25, senior Alex Alberto (Concord, Mass.) in 21:28 and first-year Kallie Nixon (Medfield, Mass.) in 21:35.

Bates returns to Franklin Park in two weeks to run at the all-divisions Open New England Championships on Oct. 9.
