Women's cross country takes seventh place at NESCACs








AMHERST, Mass. -- The Bates women's cross country team finished seventh at the NESCAC Cross Country Championship for the second year in a row, while recording the Bobcats' best team score (177 points) at the conference meet since 2008.

Bates finished 29 points behind sixth-place Bowdoin (148) and 16 points ahead of eighth-place Wesleyan. Bates entered the meet ranked No. 10 in New England, while Wesleyan stood at No. 9. No. 1 nationally ranked Williams beat out No. 3 Middlebury for the team championship.

Bates junior Alicia Fannon (Haverhill, Mass.) led the team with a 21st-place finish out of 123 runners overall, covering an extraordinarily weather-ravaged 6-kilometer course in 23:32. Junior Lindsay Cullen (Newburyport, Mass.) came in 31st in 23:57. First-year Elena Jay (West Hartford, Conn.) took 41st place in 24:15. Completing Bates' team scoring, senior captain Jenny Monsulick (Readfield, Maine) came in 55th in 24:40, and sophomore Meg Ogilvie (Hopedale, Mass.) took 61st in 24:52. Sophomore Kallie Nixon (Medfield, Mass.) placed 69th in 25:11, and sophomore Mira Carey-Hatch (Laconia, N.H.) rounded out the top seven in 84th (25:29).

Bates will run a contingent of competitors at next Saturday's ECAC Championship, hosted by Williams at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass.
