WENHAM, Mass. -- The No. 32 nationally ranked Bates women's cross country team rested top runners thus far this season, but still made an impressive showing at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College, earning third place among 27 teams.
Among 317 runners in the race, Bates junior Andrea Fisher (Williamstown, Mass.) led the Bobcats in 12th place overall, at 19:09.4. First-year Addie Cullenberg (Farmington, Maine) was 14th in 19:16.6, followed by senior Merrill Brady (Concord, Mass.) in 21st at 19:35.0, sophomore Sarah Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.) 22nd in 19:38.2 and first-year Isabelle Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) in 31st at 19:49.1. Bates' displacers were first-year Isabel Ferguson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) in 35th at 19:55.5, and senior Lisa Reedich (Harvard, Mass.) in 59th at 20:26.5.
An even 100 points had Bates trailing second-place Westfield (98) by two points, while Wellesley took first place with 51 points.
The Bobcats moved into the USTFCCCA's Division III Top 35 national poll this week at No. 32, while also moving from sixth to fifth among New England teams.
A full complement of Bates runners will compete at the RPI Invitational next Saturday, Oct. 6 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
