Women's cross country wins Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The No. 28 nationally ranked Bates women's cross country team saw its top five runners all place among the top eight individuals, for a clear-cut victory at the seven-team Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) led the Bobcats, placing third overall in 23:36.24 over the 6-kilometer course on Bowdoin's campus. Bates swept positions five through eight to wrap up their scoring with an unassailable score of 29 points. 

Bowdoin finished second with 57, with their fifth runner crossing the finish line in 26th place. Hsson was third at 79, followed by UMass-Dartmouth (96, Norwich (117), Southern Maine (172) and Maine Maritime (215).

Senior captain Elena Jay (West Hartford, Conn.) placed fifth overall in 23:54.68, followed by senior Erica Gagnon (Weymouth, Mass.) in 23:58.66, first-year Katherine Cook (South Burlington, Vt.) in 23:59.46 and junior Addie Cullenberg (Farmington, Maine) in eighth in 24:05.44.

Bates also swept positions 11 through 15, headed by displacers sophomore Molly Chisholm (Wayland, Mass.) and junior Hannah Zeltner (Bedford, N.H.) in 24:13.58 and 24:24.90, respectively.

Bates travels to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., next Saturday for the Paul Short Invitational.
