BOSTON -- A partial contingent of runners helped the Bates women's cross country team place 16th out of 25 teams Saturday in the JV race at the all-divisions Open New England Championships at Franklin Park.
Junior Isabelle Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) led the Bobcats in her season debut, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 20:16.39, 113th-fastest among 301 runners. Sophomore Ashley Pollack (Port Washington, N.Y.) came next in 144th (20:40.12), followed closely by first-year Courtney Porfido (Ramsey, N.J.) in 152nd (20:48.23) and junior Margaret Pope (McCall, Idaho) in 165th (20:56.91). Sophomore Kylie Johnson (Winnetka, Ill.) and Lily Rogers-Grant (Afton, Minn.) were 173rd and 174th, respectively, at 21:00.79 and 21:01.097, and junior Isabel Ferguson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) was the team's second displacer in 182nd (21:07.90).
Bates competes next Saturday in the State of Maine Championship, hosted by UMaine-Farmington, starting at noon.
